What to Expect During Your Appointments
Prior to Your Appointment
Make an appointment online or call.
Eat a light meal before your appointment. Avoid caffeine, as it can increase needling sensation.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing. You're welcome to bring a change of clothes.
During Your Appointment
Initial Appointment: My goal is to get a clear, in-depth picture of your health, provide treatment, and agree on a treatment plan that is right for you. Please plan for up to 2 hours.
Evaluation Each appointment starts with a comprehensive interview and systems review (i.e. digestion, sleep, energy), pulse reading, reflex point exam, and tongue diagnosis.
Treatment Treatment methods will likely vary with each appointment, as you respond to treatment.
The Importance of a Treatment Plan At the end of your initial appointment, we will develop a treatment plan. Acupuncture effects build over time, similar to physical therapy. You can never have appointments too close together, but you can have them too far apart. Often you'll feel great the day after treatment, but it's important to follow through on your treatment plan to heal fully. It's a good rule of thumb that most acute or simple conditions will take up to 6 treatments. Chronic or difficult conditions can take 10 or more treatments. Your treatment plan may be coming in once a week or twice a week if an aggressive approach is needed. Everyone is different, and I strive to make every treatment successful. Once your medical concern is resolved, it's wise to schedule preventive treatment once a month, if possible, to keep your body well-balanced and symptom-free.
After Your Appointment
Treatment does not end when you leave my office. Often, people feel changes well into that evening and into the next few days. It's best to avoid stressful activities after treatment to avoid disrupting the healing process. Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink water to help your body adjust and adapt to its healing journey.
For Follow-up Appointments, please plan for up to 60 minutes. You'll receive a full evaluation, treatment, and post-treatment evaluation with each appointment.
Never hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns.
